Woodend Holiday Cottages
Holiday Cottages situated between the Duddon and Eskdale Valleys high on Birker Fell. Enjoy peace and tranquility in the Cumbrian Mountains and the most stunning views of Scafell. We are trialling Satellite Broadband which should give a better internet experience that our previous "copper line" connection. We have registered for STARLINK (due to be available later in the year), which should further enhance our internet speed and reduce latency (delay).

We can be flexible with booking dates and days and please remember, it is always cheaper to book DIRECT with the OWNER to avoid paying the commission and booking fees that agents add! Close to Devoke Water, Woodend is conveniently situated for Ulpha, Seathwaite, Eskdale, Boot, Broughton-in-Furness and the coast. We are an ideal centre for walking, wild swimming, fishing, cycling, climbing, sightseeing or simply relaxing.
Services
We are very fortunate to work at home in this magnificent location with our collection of quirky individual cottages to look after.
Having fond memories of our holidays, the places visited and in many cases the years that we took them, making memorable holidays for our guests is our main goal.
We spend most of our time at Woodend with our dog "Gracie" and we keep chickens, some of the year a few pigs, grow our own vegetables and enjoy cooking, home brewing and wine making.
Other than that we enjoy live music and organise our regular local live music event, "Music in Ulpha".
We cater for one to two persons in this light double aspect room with vaulted ceiling, exposed beams and private bathroom.
The accommodation has immediate views over the fields towards Scafell, Bow Fell and Crinkle Craggs.
Guests can come and go at any time during the day and evening and are welcome to relax in the lounge.
If required, we can provide a two course evening meal and are quite happy to cater for any special dietary requirements.
A choice of fresh home made bread, cereals, yoghurts, fruit, fruit juice, tea and freshly ground coffee.
If you intend to use Satnav, based on the postcode LA20 6DY, you will end up about 2 miles from Woodend at Crosbythwaite Farm.
To prevent you from getting lost, especially for the last 2 miles, you may need the following additional directions.
The mobile phone reception within about 5 miles of Woodend is very patchy so please don't assume that you can easily phone if you get lost.
Take the exit off the A591 onto the A590 following the signs for Barrow.
Ignore any sign on your left to Ulpha at this time as there are two Ulpha's in Cumbria and this is the wrong one!.
From the car park, stone steps lead up to a gate and the front door.
Entrance leads into the combined lounge / dining / kitchen area with views towards Scafell.
Open plan wooden steps lead down to the bedroom, which has stone walls and oak beams.
A door leads from the bedroom to the bathroom which has a traditional slipper bath, hand basin and WC.
From the kitchen window and garden there are views towards Scafell, Bow Fell and Crinkle Craggs.
An enclosed private garden surrounds two sides of the Bothy with a patio area at the top from where you have spectacular views towards Scafell.
Entrance is either through the garden room or through a gate and path to the front door where you enter into the combined lounge / dining / kitchen / bedroom area with exposed beams and stone walls.
A door leads from the bedroom area to the bathroom which has a spacious shower, hand basin and WC.
Another door leads to the "sitooterie" (a Scots colloquial term meaning a place to sit oot!) / conservatory / garden room, where there is a bistro table and chairs and a second multifuel stove and the log store.
