Follow this road past Broughton-in-Furness, the High Cross Inn on your right and down a steep hill towards the traffic lights.
Follow this road to Ulpha across the river, past the Post Office on your left and continue for another 2 miles on this road.
You will go over a bridge (and there is a telephone box on the right) carry on for another 300 metres.
Hall Dunnerdale cottages can be found on your left with Bramble and Byre a little further along the road.
As a tourist centre Ambleside has a long and favourable history.
For well over 150 years the town has earned a living catering for visitors, giving them mostly what they wanted, provided they didn't mind what they got.
The last twenty five years have seen a revolution in tourist provision however, as upgrading of catering at all levels has been led by the market and by encouragement from official bodies.
Few could nowadays claim that they cannot enjoy the level of catering they expect.
All sectors of the market, from campers to gourmets, will find satisfactory establishments in Ambleside and its outlying hamlets and villages.
A quaint, unspoilt Cumbrian town, which nestles in the foothills of some of the more dramatic Lake District fells, one of Britain's Hidden Treasures.
The history of Broughton-in-Furness dates back to the eleventh century with the oldest building thought to be the church of St Mary Magdelene, first built in Saxon times.
The town's heart centres around the attractive Market Square with tall Georgian houses on three sides.
The visitor can take a welcome break in summer, sitting outside one of the towns Inns or coffee shop, enjoying sun and just watching the world go by in this timeless area of the Duddon Valley.
