Scotchcoulthard Holiday Cottages
Scotchcoulthard Farm and Self-Catering Holiday Cottages is situated four miles north of Hadrian's Wall in The Northumberland National Park at its most spectacular part. It is halfway between Carlisle and Hexham on the edge of Wark Forest which leads into Kielder Forest. It is necessary to cross the wall to reach Scotchcoulthard and the sites of Housesteads, Vindolanda and The Roman Army Museum are only a short distance away.

Although remote, Scotchcoulthard is not isolated. It is possible to be parked in The Metro Centre, Newcastle, Carlisle, The Lake District or Scotland within an hour. Set on a small farm within 180 acres it is surrounded by splendid scenery with magnificent views and not another inhabited dwelling in sight. Scotchcoulthard is four miles away from The Military Road (B6318 which runs parallel to Hadrian's Wall) and the last farm you pass is two miles away.

If you want to really 'get away from it all' it is ideal, although for those who prefer a more populated area, not so much!

If on the A69 continue to Bardon Mill which you will find with the Garage on the right and The Little Chef on the left.
Continue up the hill and down the hill where you will see a speed camera on your left next to the junction for Melkridge.
The open fire in the living room kept the cottage lovely and warm and the views of the open countryside were second to none.
If your looking for somewhere in the middle of nowhere this is the place.
The nearest big town Hexham in roughly 40 mins away.
The drive to the cottage takes you over the wall at Caw Pass and a further 2-3 miles takes you onto an unmade road down to the farm.
The cottage has its own washing machine with a laundry room across the yard with a great dryer to get your washing dry.
We are 7 miles from the nearest town (Haltwhistle) with the last 4 miles only passing about 6 houses.
Please do not drive on the hay meadows (even if there are already tyre tracks) It ruins the meadow and you can get stuck.
If that should happen we have to get the local farmer to come and pull you off!
If anything doesn't work, is broken or is missing please let us know straight away so we can fix or replace it.
Please remember we are many miles from diy shops and so getting spare parts can sometimes be a problem!
The self-catering cottages all have extensive views and open out onto patio and lawned areas.
The grassed area at the back of The Byre and Hawthorn is ideal for ball games and is edged by trees.
As we welcome dogs there are plenty of places to walk your dogs and let them have a good run or splash in the streams.
Hawthorn is a three bed-roomed cottage, though it is mainly let as a two bedroom in a combination to suit the guests needs.
The twin bedroom is the walk through to one of the bedrooms.
There is an extra single bed in the double room, accessed by a ladder above the stairwell.
As you enter the door there is a pine staircase ahead with the living room and kitchen on either side.
The bedrooms are on either side upstairs.
The living room has a three seater and two seater leather couch, and a rocking chair situated round a wood burning stove for those cosy evenings in.
