Built in 1800 with Wall stone, the house is bordered by open fields and has stunning views south towards the North Pennines, whilst to the north lies the Northumberland National Park and Thirlwall Castle. Holmhead is built over the foundations of Hadrians Wall. Our location, directly on The Hadrians Wall Path and Pennine way make us an ideal stop-off for walkers, and were only 250m off the Hadrians Wall Cycle Trail.

For evening meals, there's a local pub which is a pleasant half-mile stroll away and serves great food and real ales. For those staying for longer breaks, we're ideally situated for exploring all the Hadrians Wall sites and museums, the North Pennines, Lake District, Tyne, Wear and Tees Dales, The Northumberland National Park and the stunning coastlines.

We?re only about an hour's drive from Newcastle and about half an hour from Carlisle. There are a number of local walks, either along the national trail or local circular walks through some of the most spectacular (and peaceful) scenery in the country.
Services
Barn 2 A barn that has one bunk (for 2), two single beds and a double bed and some seating.
There is a rear door allowing access to the garden and a shower + toilet / washbasin which is in an outbuilding.
There is also a door to the other part of the barn, for access to further toilet and shower and the cooking facilities.
Camping Pitches There are a limited number of tent pitches available in the barn garden, which have access to the shower / toilet in the outbuilding.
We advise pre-booking of pitches wherever possible.
Myself and my adult daughter stayed overnight as part of our three day hike on the Hadrians Wall Trail.
Our hosts were very friendly, welcoming and attentive.
They provided a lovely vegan breakfast and packed lunch which met dietary preference but was not really expected.
The Pub was a pleasant 10 minute walk and this also had a vegan menu!
Absolutely perfect.
Thank you for the genuine hospitality.
We had a great 2 night stay.
The hosts were most welcoming and very helpful in booking an evening meal for us at the local pub.
About 100 yards along the track after the last house on the right, you will reach a small grassed area.
Bear right and go over bridge (please note this is a sharp turn and you may not realise there is a bridge until you are virtually on it!).
We are directly on the Hadrian's Wall Path and The Pennine Way, about 200 metres East of Thirlwall Castle.
There is no need to go into Greenhead Village to find us!
From The Hadrians Wall Cycle Route, if you are travelling West, we are signposted off the cycle route about 400metres after GreenheadVillage.
