Experience the sites and sounds of our flock of native sheep and herd of endangered Exmoor ponies. Long Byres cottages are at the heart of life on a working farm, home to sheep, horses, and many assorted birds. Children are welcome to come and meet all of the animal residents in the yard. Long Byres Cottages are perfectly situated for families, outdoor enthusiasts and those looking to explore the North Pennines and the Lake District.

From stunning walking and cycling to discovering the captivating wildlife, diverse landscapes and historic wonders the area has to offer, we offer a cozy and relaxing base for your Cumbrian adventure! The properties are well located for outdoor enthusiasts with several walks available directly on the doorstep.
Services
Long Byres Holiday Cottages are located on a working hill farm in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Our six specially designed holiday cottages were converted by the Dean family from the traditional farm buildings in 1979 and are an early example of farm diversification.
With the next generation taking over the reins, refurbishments are underway in the cottages to update them once again.
We hope that all guests, both old and new will enjoy what is to come and that we continue to provide fantastic holiday experiences to all who visit Long Byres Holiday Cottages.
Heather cottage is one of our two largest and first cottages at Long Byres.
Providing beautiful views out across Talkin Head Farm and the surrounding countryside.
Includes a large open plan kitchen/dining room and living room which opens out onto a wooden balcony.
The units feature one master bedroom and two family rooms.
The master bedroom situated downstairs and looks out across the beautiful views of the farm and benefits from an en-suite.
The two family rooms are built upstairs into the eaves and provide quirky cosy bunk beds.
With so many exciting places to explore just a stones throw away you will find something to do whatever the weather has in store!.
Located within a 5 minute drive, Talkin Tarn is a perfect spot for all the family to enjoy.
The North Pennines is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and UNESCO Global Geopark.
Lowther Castle is a fantastic 18th century gothic castle with extensive & beautiful garden grounds set over 130 acres.
Lanercost Priory is a well-preserved monastic site originally founded in the 12th Century.
Exit the M6 at J43 and follow signs to Brampton.
Once in Brampton you will pick up the B6413 signposted for Castle Carrock and Talkin Tarn.
Follow this road until you see signs for the village of Talkin.
Once in Talkin take the road to the left of the Blacksmiths Arms and after 400 yards turn right into a small road signposted Talkin Head.
Long Byres is about half a mile along this road.
Visitors arriving from the North East via the A69 please note that the road to Talkin is not accessible from the Brampton by-pass.
