Services
Hill on the Wall is what it says - almost exactly on the famous Roman Wall built nearly 2000 years ago - about 300 yards walk actually.
An Act of Parliament in 1555 made it compulsory for everyone living in the twenty mile wide Border Zone to build their own defences against reivers and cross-border raiders.
Not everyone complied but the owners of 'The Hill' did.
In 1595 this 'bastle' was built and while it has all the comforts of the 21st century, its original characteristics have been tastefully retained.
After a hard day's walking or cycling along Hadrian's Wall, relax and recover in one of our luxury B&B guest bedrooms.
Kingsize Double Room with en-suite bathroom.
This spacious room is at the front of the house on the first floor with views over Hadrian's Wall and Irthing Valley.
It is furnished with light oak furniture and a brass king size bedstead.
It has a pure wool carpet and beautiful rugs, both floor and wall hanging, the latter from Nepal.
The windows have shutters and floor to ceiling curtains.
