Very convenient for walking groups and with moderately priced or free attractions within easy reach should be highly suitable for school parties. St, Albans We had a lovely time. The space was very suitable for us as we like to break up into smaller groups for discussion. There are plenty of things to do as well in the immediate area if we want to go out for a break.

The Glenorchy Centre is particuarly well suited as a cost-effective base for large family groups to explore the south of the Peak District, with self-catering facilities and a range of local facilities.
Local shops sell a good range of food, including fresh bread, local meat, organic and FairTrade produce.
If you don't want to cook for yourself all the time there is a range of local cafes and restaurants.
Other shops include clothing, arts and crafts, a second-hand bookshop and an old-fashioned sweet shop.
The Glenorchy Centre is popular with small school groups because of the combination of local activities and the facilities on offer.
Wirksworth is located at the edge of the Derwent Valley World Heritage site and gives easy access to educational centres in Cromford and Derby.
The town has a history of lead mining and limestone quarrying, which are both demonstrated at the Heritage Centre and National Stone Centre.
The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, Steeple Grange Narrow-gauge railway and Crich Tramway Village (11 miles from the centre) are other local attractions.
The Glenorchy Centre is ideally situated for walkers, with local 'round Wirksworth' routes as well as access to national walking paths.
A few minutes walk in any direction from the town will find you in the rolling Derbyshire countryside, with Black Rocks, Middleton Top, Alport Heights and Carsington Water as easy destinations.
If you prefer flatter walking, the High Peak Trail, Tissington Trail, Cromford Canal and Carsington Water provide more a leisurely way to enjoy the local scenery.
Finally, there are plenty of opportunities for cyclists, on the High Peak and Tissington Trails, at Carsington Water as well as plenty of steep road stretches (try the Wirksworth to Cromford Road for starters!)
