If you know little about the Peak District and Derbyshire you will more than likely have heard of Bakewell which is famed for its Bakewell Puddings (not Tarts) that are made to an ancient secret recipe.
Sitting astride the River Derwent it is a lovely market town and one of the main gateways to the National Park.
Venture further into the Park and you will be overwhelmed by the fantastic landscape.
This is beautiful countryside with deep, tree clad river valleys and amazing gritstone Edges.
Just gaze at the view from Monsal Head with the River Wye spanned by the old railway viaduct.
Buxton is high up in the Derbyshire hills surrounded by the Peak District National Park.
The centre piece of the town is the Georgian Crescent recently reopen as a luxurious hotel but offering hydrotherapy and spa treatments to day visitors.
If you don't fancy taking the 'Waters' then how about exploring the Pavilion Gardens, visiting the magnificent Opera House or listening to the incredible echo in the Devonshire Dome.
This might all sound a bit boring for the kids but remember that you can always take them to the Buxton Go- Carting centre, let them go ape in the Go Ape adventure playground or be wide eyed in Pooles Cavern, a two-million-year-old natural limestone cave on the edge of the town.
Matlock is the county town in Derbyshire and has long been a destination for tourists when in Victorian times people used to come and take the 'Mild Water Cure' in the numerous spa hotels.
Today it is a bustling little town with local shops, restaurants and pubs surrounding the award-winning Hall Leys Park.
The town sits astride the River Derwent and all the little villages on the valley hillsides are some of the most popular locations for cottage holidays.
Winster with its lead mining origins has lots of little cottages, secret little walkways and many a sleepy cat on an Aubretia clad wall.
