Compston House is a traditional 1890's merchant house built of Lakeland stone. Throughout the years, it has been lovingly cared for and provided many guests with memorable visits of Ambleside. The property is ideally situated in the heart of Ambleside, close to all shops, bars and restaurants. Owners Megan and John (and their dog Mia) provide high quality hospitality, a comfortable stay and fantastic breakfasts making your stay all the more enjoyable!
Compston House has undergone a major refurbishment and has now had seven of its nine rooms renovated to a very high standard, leaving only two to follow. All of our new rooms have been very well received from our previous guests and we look forward to completing the house in the coming years. Found directly opposite, White Platts Recreation Ground has a 9 hole mini-golf course - with a 90 metre hole, putting green and crazy golf.
For the more energetic person there are three full size tennis courts for you to play on, for a more gentle life they have a large smart bowling green.
They have an infant play area and lots of benches so you could just sit and relax as the day passes by.
All the equipment can be hired from the ticket office along with hot and cold drinks and ice creams.
Open daily from 10am with the last ticket sold an hour before closing at 7pm during peak times and at 5pm off peak times - weather permitting.
