Idyllic, beautiful, calming, atmospheric, just a few words often said about Llanthony Priory. Whether you want to go walking, cycling or trekking, maybe do some reading, painting or star gazing. Llanthony is a wonderful base to cater for all. Four of our guest rooms are situated in the tower next to the dining room and reached by a spiral staircase.
The rooms are comfortable but basic and furnished in a manner suited to a 12th century priory, including four poster or half tester beds. They have no en-suite facilities, and in fact have no plumbing at all. We do have two fully fitted shower rooms situated on the first floor. Next to the tower we also have three additional guest rooms with a fully fitted bathroom.
Real ales are served in the vaulted under croft bar, thought once to have been the prior's cellar, while excellent homemade meals are served in the dining room, with its vaulted ceiling and open log fire. Llanthony Priory was one of the earliest houses of Augustinian canons to be founded in Britain, and is one of only a handful in Wales.

This small country inn, often known as the "Abbey Hotel", sits within and is actually part of the original 12th century Augustinian priory.

As we are a small establishment, we advise guests to arrive during bar opening times so as avoid waiting outside.

Llanthony Priory was one of the earliest houses of Augustinian canons to be founded in Britain, and is one of only a handful in Wales.
It is chiefly famous today for its wild and beautiful setting, far up the Vale of Ewyas in the Black Mountains.
It was the priory's remoteness in the Welsh hills which was its undoing, however, making it vulnerable to attack.
Giraldus Cambrensis described it, in the late 12th century, as being 'fixed amongst a barbarous people'.
William de Lacy, a knight in the service of Hugh de Lacy, is said to have chosen the spot while out hunting, when he sheltered in a chapel there dedicated to St David.
