Front entrance to the "new" Clochfaen, 1915.
The architect was the arts and crafts luminary, William Arthur Smith Benson.
Once in business with William Morris, and a designer in the English Arts and Crafts idiom, W. A. S. Benson is best known for his stylish and innovative lighting devices.
He also created designs for buildings, interiors, wall papers, metal-ware, and furniture.
So wrote the original owners of The Clochfaen in 1915.
Since acquiring The Clochfaen in 2000, we have striven to recreate the original interiors, while following Benson's aim of "a liveable house" for today.

This is the upland kingdom of the Red Kite and home to diverse birds and wild animals, an area of outstanding natural beauty, with some of the most stunning mountains and breathtaking scenery in the British Isles.
Our locality creates excellent opportunities for walking and cycling tours, and the Clochfaen Estate has its very own opportunities for fly fishing in the Wye and Severn catchments: five miles of fishing on the River Wye, and reciprocal arrangements with the Llanidloes and District Angling Association that include fishing on the River Severn.

Clochfaen Cottages, comprising two Arts and Crafts style semi-detached cottages built from local stone in 1912.
The Cottages are listed as a Grade II monument for their historical and architectural importance.
They stand in an elevated yet secluded position 250 yards to the south west of The Clochfaen main house.
Both cottages have commanding views over the Wye Valley, the village of Llangurig, and Voel Curig mountain.
They provide a fine location for holidays at any time of year.
North Cottage and South Cottage each have pedestrian access from the yard of the Old Stables via a steep path leading to front doors at first floor level on the west side of the cottages.
The Clochfaen stands on the route of the Wye Valley Walk, one of the principal continuous walking routes in Wales.
The Wye Valley Walk extends 136 miles from Chepstow in the south to a point on Plynlimon Mountain in the north.
On the route of the Wye Valley Walk lie the towns of Monmouth, Ross on Wye, Hay on Wye, Builth Wells and Rhayader.
Of the five peaks of Plynlimon, Pen Pumlumon Fawr, at 2,467 feet, is the highest summit of the Cambrian Mountain range, about 7 miles from The Clochfaen.
The rivers Wye, Severn and Rheidol have their sources on Plynlimon, and these remote and spectacular mountain locations provide a rewarding destination for properly equipped walkers.
