IMPORTANT NEWS - Mike and Gill are retiring (properly this time!). We would like to thank all our guests over the last decade or so who have supported us and made this enterprise both a success and a pleasure. Our home, 'Tryfan', is a spacious modern chalet bungalow in a magnificent elevated location within the market town of Machynlleth.

Our unique position offers amazing wide-sweeping views over the River Dovey (Afon Dyfi) and the mountains of Southern Snowdonia in the north and also the rolling hills of the Plynlimon massif to the south.Despite our elevated position we are only minutes from the centre of town and all the amenities it offers. We are also only a few hundred metres from the railway station - just at the bottom of our road.

We offer stylish modern accommodation but with some of the charm and character of a country cottage. You'll receive a friendly old-fashioned personal service to make you feel welcome and cared for throughout your stay. Your hosts, Mike and Gill McKever are experienced walkers and bikers with a love of the Welsh countryside and all the beauty and excitement it has to offer.
Services
Each of our two guest rooms are decorated to add freshness and style to the existing charm and character.
Both rooms are on the first floor and accessed from an attractive galleried landing over the large hallway.
Being a chalet bungalow our first-floor rooms have partly sloping ceilings which lend a cosy 'cottage' character.
Each room is very different, providing a real choice to guests and meeting a wide range of accommodation requirements.
Both rooms are individually designed with flair and attention to detail.
We are very proud of our spacious guests' dining room, which has the benefit of a 3m wide French window and terrace with fabulous views overlooking the Dovey Valley and even the occasional view of a Red Kite from the breakfast table!
The room is so large that we have been able to incorporate a guests lounge area with a smart, comfortable sofa and chairs.
Guests are welcome to use this room to relax and socialise at all reasonable times.
There is also a bar that serves as the breakfast bar, reception area, and as an 'honesty bar' where guests can purchase a range of non-alcoholic beverages and snacks.
We have held our general tariff at 2019 rates but there are some minor alterations for 2020.
Special rates and restrictions may apply during certain periods.
We try to keep our rates as simple to understand as possible by charging per room (with 2 persons sharing).
We offer lower rates for longer visits and special discounts too.
Please note we are currently only able to accept payment by cash or cheque or 'Faster Payments' (internet bank transfer).
Please ask for details.
Overseas visitors can pay their deposit via 'PayPal'.
We offer a wide range of breakfast menus as well as the classic 'Full English Breakfast' with bacon and egg and all the trimmings.
We also offer several alternative cooked breakfasts and a specialist vegetarian breakfast with vegan alternatives.
We also have occasional 'specials' according to availability of ingredients or special requests.
All ingredients are high quality, fresh, and cooked to order.
We source ingredients from local farmers, shops and the local market wherever this is possible without compromising quality.
The local area is alive with great things to do, especially for those who enjoy the great outdoors.
Get away from the crowds.
Lose yourself in the stunning scenery of the Snowdonia National Park or the wide Dovey Valley and its vast estuary.
Look forward towards a greener future at The Centre for Alternative Technology.
Or take a trip back in time on a historical journey to the age of King Arthur or Owain Glyndwr, or ride on a narrow-gauge steam railway or explore a disused mine.
Head to the coast for those sandy beaches and seaside resorts.
