Vulcan Lodge Cottages
If you're looking for a remote holiday cottage off the beaten track Vulcan Lodge is not for you. But if you want a touch of luxury with easy access to the A470 and a shop and cafe nearby - all set in the beauty of the Upper Wye Valley, then stay with us. Full-sized freezers in the Middleton and Faulkner and a shared one in the laundry for Searle, Tudor and Woodman.

On the right 3.5 miles south of Rhayader and on the left 10 miles north of Builth Wells. If you are using Satnav it will tell you to turn of the A470. Don't do this as Vulcan Lodge is visible when you're on the A470. You will see a grassed area with picnic tables behind which is a slip road which runs in front of the building. There is intermittent traffic during the day but very little after 6.00 pm.

Close by: River Wye behind the Lodge - Wye Valley Walk - Sustrans routes 8 and 81 - Wye/Usk Foundation canoe access point - Bus stop to Llandrindod Wells and Rhayader.

The Woodman holiday cottage is a lovely, quaint cottage occupying the upper floors of the original three stone cottages.
Thick stone walls and heavily beamed ceilings give it much character.
We do not accept children with this cottage.
There is a front porch from which stairs lead up to the accommodation which comprises a through lounge/kitchen/diner, a bathroom with a corner bath and shower, and two bedrooms.
The two shared gardens are located either at the side of the Lodge or opposite across the sliproad.
Rhayader's own website: www.rhayader.co.uk is well worth a visit.
It lists lots of things to do during your stay and it lists a programme of special events which go on throughout the year.
Below is just a selection of things to do during your stay.
Sightseeing - Welsh Overland Safaris offer bespoke guided tours of the beautiful Mid Wales Countryside.
Walking - There are many lovely walks of varying lengths, strengths and landscapes.
A favourite is the Elan Valley Walking and Cycling Trail which begins in Rhayader and takes you to the Elan Valley and its lakes.
When planning the conversion of the Vulcan Arms we were especially careful at the planning stage to make the cottages as friendly as possible for guests with disabilities and concentrated on the Middleton and Tudor cottages to do this.
All of their rooms are on the ground floor and access into each is level.
This has one very large bedroom with a very large en suite wet room appropriately equipped.
The bed will take a hoist and there is a bed settee which can be made up to accommodate a carer.
The kitchen and living space are open plan.
