The Cottage Nursery is a registered charity limited by guarantee providing high quality childcare in the Shrivenham and Watchfield area and runs under the leadership of Managers Clare Olden and Trudi Krzywiec and a Board of Trustees. The nursery is closely linked with the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom and offers places to families attending the college as well as to local residents of the surrounding area.

In 1987, Beckett Crche was started by two mothers with a small grant for toys and some leftover emulsion. It ran every morning with 3 adults and 15 children. The numbers grew steadily and in 1995 the crche merged with Beckett School, which was then closing. It was renamed The Cottage Nursery and had 125 children, 4 full -time staff and 12 part-timers, located in Beckett Cottage on Park Avenue, Shrivenham within the grounds of the Defence College of Management and Technology.

Alexander Hall, Faringdon Road, Watchfield was identified as being a more suitable site and so the nursery re-located.

This room is for the oldest children at the nursery who are three years old.
Like the Panthers room it is located in the new part of our building.
Both these rooms benefit from having toilets located in each room so the children are encouraged to use the toilets independently.
It has a lovely enclosed garden area which the children can use during the free-flow part of each session.
There is an art corner as well as a 'messy' area for sand and water play although we often substitute rice, flour, shredded paper, gloop to name a few alternatives!
Babies can start at the nursery from 3 months old, they will stay in the Cubs room until they are about 18 months old.
The Cubs room is completely self-contained with its own sleep area, kitchen and nappy changing area.
We can take up to 12 babies in this room with a staff to child ratio of 1:3.
We will work closely with parents to ensure that each baby has a routine which suits them whilst fitting in with the daily pattern of the room.
There is a separate outside play area where the babies can enjoy lots of different activities in a safe and secure environment as well as lots of toys and activities to enjoy inside.
As you would expect we have lots and lots of Policies and Procedures which are continually reviewed and updated, in fact far too many to list here!
If there is anything in particular that you would like to know the nursery's policy on please feel free to ask and we would be happy to email you a copy.
The Cottage Nursery has a 'Healthy Eating Policy' which we adhere to when preparing lunch meals, we would be happy to send you a copy on request.
The Cottage Nursery is a Nut-Free zone, so we ask parents not to send in anything with any nuts in, unfortunately this also includes chocolate spread as it may be 'Nutella'!
We employ a full time cook who prepares all our food fresh each day.
In addition to our cook with have 5 other members of staff who all hold Food Safety & Hygiene level 2 qualifications.
