The Belper Community Cottage originally opened (as Belper Cottage Project) in 1995 to provide an informal, welcoming and friendly central place for people to use its facilities. The Cottage has four meeting rooms, which, for a small fee can be hired by individuals or organisations. The rooms are capable of accommodating up to 20 people and are furnished with either easy chairs or tables and upright chairs.
The smaller rooms are suitable for counselling individuals or families. The Cottage has a good sized well-fitted kitchen where food and drink can be prepared by yourself or by arrangement. There are toilets upstairs and disabled toilets are on the ground floor.

Services
The Belper Community Cottage was the brainchild of Liz Reeve in 1990.
As a member of the Belper Methodist Church, Liz, with the help of representatives of other Belper churches, envisaged a facility which whilst remaining informal, welcoming and friendly, would provide benefits for visitors.
It was set up to function in a non-institutionalised manner without discrimination to sexuality, gender, disability, faith, multi-culturalism, ageism or social stigma.
The Cottage Project started in what was then a rather run-down building and it took several years of blood, sweat and tears, together with a lot of friendly persuasion to prepare for opening.

The Child Contact Centre sessions have been run by volunteers (each having a DBS check) for over 15 years, providing a safe, friendly and impartial service for up to 5 families at each session.
The Centre's aims are to provide a safe, confidential, professional and caring environment for both families and volunteers.
Due to the lay-out of the cottage, the Centre is fortunate to be able to offer each family their own room which provides privacy.
The Centre offers a handover service, which means that the adult delivering the child does not have to meet the visiting adult.

There is plenty to do at the Belper Cottage and volunteers are always needed.
