Located in the village of Peldon, close to historic Colchester, Mersea Island and the North Essex Coast, Ransomes Bed and Breakfast was a traditional farm house built in the 17th Century and boasts timber beamed ceilings. The house has been sympathetically extended and the large kitchen houses an Aga for wonderful breakfasts! Our breakfast consists of all locally sourced produce prepared by Andrew on his Aga; please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements before your visit.

Our Full English breakfast includes field mushrooms, local pork sausages, tomatoes, Aga-fried bread and eggs; vegetarian option is available if requested. Cereals, toast with local Tiptree jam, fresh fruit, tea and coffee are also on the table. We have put in place measures to ensure social distancing is possible. These measures include an enhanced cleaning regime, thoroughly disinfecting between guests, with sanitiser available for guests to use.

Self catering is available in the annexe and we only have one set of guests at a time to eat in our large farmhouse kitchen, with a dining area outside as well.

Our Annexe is perfect for couples or families, with room for up to five people, offering a home from home in the North Essex countryside.
As well as a double bedroom, there is also a twin bedroom plus a sofa bed in the lounge area suitable for one person.
The large lounge area offers a comfortable living and dining space, alongside a well equipped kitchen.
The Annexe is particularly popular with families and guests attending weddings at the nearby Five Lakes Hotel, Braxted Park or Layer Marney Tower.
Our garden covers nearly 2 acres and is Nicky's pride and joy.
She spends a great deal of her free time tending it and usually has a project on the go somewhere within it.
Nicky is always thrilled to meet and chat with guests who share her passion for gardening, or indeed just to let people enjoy what she has created.
The garden is constantly evolving, so repeat guests find something new and different every time they visit; some of our longest standing guests recently commented that seeing how it's changed/grown over the years, is one of the highlights of their visits.
We look forward to welcoming you to Ransomes Bed and Breakfast in the pretty village of Peldon, between Mersea Island and Colchester.
