The Queens Arms Country Inn was built by cotton mill owner William Robinson in 1825 to serve purpose as a beer house.
In 1837, the same year that Queen Victoria ascended to the throne, it was awarded a licence as an alehouse.
Towards the end of the 19th Century The Queens was acquired by the Manchester Racecourse Company as it was proposed that a racecourse was going to be built around the village.
From 1903 to 1927, The Queens also served as a terminus for the local tram 4.5 mile network.
