The Verandah House
Verandah House is an historic grade II listed building, located in the centre of Stowmarket, and is a fine example of a Georgian gentlemans residence. Built originally around 1700, a cottage and stables were added to the original house in 1729. Later in the mid 1800s the main house and cottage were joined together with the addition of a substantial Victorian extension, to provide the charming house we now enjoy today.

Our house is less than 100m from the Regal Theatre, and little more than a five minute stroll from the Market Place, yet Verandah House is surprisingly quiet and peaceful within its tranquil walled garden. Please take a look around our site and see what Verandah House offers. If you have any questions or queries, or would like to make a booking, please go to the "Contact Us" page and get in touch.

We understand that Verandah House was the home of the Prentice family until sometime after the Second World War.
The Prentice family had extensive milling and industrial connections with the area.
The Prentice and Munton families joined forces in the agricultural and chemical supply industries and eventually became Fisons Agricultural with various spin off companies which became world famous in their own right.
British nylon spinners - Courtaulds - and even mighty ICI can trace some of their origins back to this house.
