Treat yourself to a relaxing stay in this charming 200-year old cottage surrounded by 20 acres of private nature reserve on the shores of Lough Neagh. Wake up to cows grazing, passing pheasants and our pony Milly and Tom the donkey. For a hearty breakfast we supply a welcome pack including fresh farm eggs from our own flock of hens, potato bread, bacon, orange juice, freshly baked scones and homemade jam.

A private five-minute walk past our pond leads to Lough Neagh where you can admire the outstanding view extending to the Mourne Mountains and Belfast Hills. From here enjoy lunch at the picnic table or pick your favourite trail through 20 acres of ASSI (Area of Special Scientific Interest) land. An old tree trunk and large stones are good stopping points to enjoy the peace and observe the riot of wild flower colour in mid-summer.

Guests have spotted swans, foxes, buzzards, kingfishers, bullfinches, butterflies, dragonflies and stoats. The highlight for me was spotting two otters playing with their tea, an eel!
Services
On arrival the stove can be lit by request, homemade scones are to be found in the welcome pack along with the makings of an Irish fry.
Fresh flower posies are in each room.
The cottage is very warm with comfortable beds and it is squeaky clean.
As well as the modern mistress stove the original gas light fittings are still in place in some rooms.
The deep walls and old red floor tiles are also reminders of the original cottage c.1700.
Altogether there are three bedrooms.
We have one double with ensuite off the living area.
We thought Ireland might be a little hostile to us English.
But oh how wrong we were.
From our lovely host Kathleen to every single person we met who were warm and welcoming.
Coming from the flatlands of the Fens to these beautiful rolling green hills and stunning natural scenery was just what we needed and with this as our base camp we will be back.
We hope you all enjoy your break as much as we did.
