Services
We have come to High Dalby with differing and varied professional backgrounds.
Ian, one-time rugby player, is a chartered engineer, spending much of his career in construction, including a period running a large manufacturing company before establishing his own property and consultancy business.
Linda taught English before becoming a secondary head teacher, then an education consultant, facilitator and coach, before embarking upon research in practical theology and learning.
Both of us were ordained into the Anglican church late in life, finding our vocations as priests coming to fruition from serendipitous spiritual journeys.
High Dalby House had humble origins as a single roomed 17th century farmhouse.
The Boddy family farmed the land for over 250 years during which time the house was periodically extended.
In the 1940s the Forestry Commission bought the house and used it to accommodate their senior officers, before selling it on to newspaper magnate Sir Meredith Whittaker in 1956.
He and his wife undertook major works, including the installation of electricity, to create a country house.
The owners previous to us bought it in 2010 making alterations and improvements to welcome guests.
Holidays are pretty much self-explanatory but holydays carry more of the sense of a 'retreat'.
Both concepts are connected as they are rooted into the idea of wholeness.
We believe that they are not mutually exclusive.
Indeed, a retreat can mean many things.
Often the word is used to mean a withdrawal from a 'battle' of some description.
Finding space and time to be mindful and reflect upon what truly matters and how to re-imagine and re-create oneself and one's circumstances is not always easy.
We would ask that you call us to discuss your booking so we are able to provide a bespoke stay.
Some weeks will be silent in the house, some may have a distinct focus, e.g.
We do offer 2 and 3-night short breaks at various times of the year.
These breaks will appear on our SPECIAL OFFERS page or contact us for availability.
For those staying in the cottages breakfast can be taken in the main house by prior arrangement for an additional charge.
Enchanting forest oasis.
Absolutely beautiful home in a magical forest setting with lovely attentive hosts.
What a haven for relaxation!
At bedtime we could hear an owl hooting and the nearly full moon behind the forest trees seen from the bedroom window was breathtaking.
The room had everything I could possibly need including toiletries, coffee and delicious biscuits, good tv, detailed guest guide with menus from local inns.
Super comfy bed!
Everything was perfect.
Location great / breakfast great, it was so quiet and peaceful a lovely place to relax and enjoy the serenity.
