Gelston Castle Holidays is a small, family-owned and family-run business providing self-catering holiday cottages in Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland (What We Offer). But that's not the whole story: Gelston Castle Estate is itself a character in the play, and a big part of "Who We Are".
Extending to some 4,500 acres, the estate has belonged since 1973 to the Scott family, the land being divided among family members: the Gelston end, comprising the Gelston Castle buildings and about a third of the total land area, is looked after by Alexander and Lucinda Scott. To avoid confusion: we are not connected with Gelston Lodge Cottages, a development of a formerly derelict farm steading on the estate.
The owners are very nice people, and they've done a beautiful job of the conversion, but they are entirely unrelated to us. Launch the slideshow to the right for an introduction to the Gelston Castle Holidays staff and the Scott family. Alexander & Lucinda Scott have been permanently resident at Gelston since 1989, following their return from the rather different environment of Tokyo.

Services
Yes, even dogs get a great holiday - they love Gelston!
We welcome them, and unlike many places we do not charge extra.
There are one or two small, common-sense conditions as detailed on the back of the booking form (see How To Book) in relation to size and numbers of dogs, and we do ask you to clear the details with us in advance - there is a place on the booking form for this.
We welcome people with disabilities, but much regret that our accommodation is only suitable for the ambulant disabled, not those who are wheelchair dependent or otherwise of severely restricted mobility.

Take a bit of Gelston home with you: watercolourist Philippa Jones has painted various pictures of the castle and estate, and these are available to buy (we take no profit on them).
Previous stays have always been mostly sunny, this year wet and windy.
But the spacious cottage made it relaxing, and our children spent blissful days sailing on Loch Ken [at Galloway Sailing Centre] and doing day courses, while we indulged in a reading fest and wandering round bookshops and galleries.
