Services
The Kings Arms Hotel was one of the Coaching Inns, and one of the tallest buildings in Shap.
It is believed to date from the 18th century.
Before the coming of the railway these inns (the Greyhound, and Queens Head were others) would have been hives of activity, serving the needs of travellers in the great road from England to Scotland.
The hotel had a range of buildings to the rear such as stables and coach houses to accommodate the horses and carriages of visitors.
There was also an assembly room used for entertainments and the venue of the Pot Fairs and Clothes Fairs held twice a year.
Our bar is a place for people from all walks of life to relax and enjoy the friendly atmosphere.
We're very popular at weekends and have coverage of both Sky Sports and BT sports on our 60 TV screen.
There are often special events such as live music, karaoke, pool and darts nights that you can participate in.
Or if you'd prefer, you can sit by the fire and enjoy a quiet drink after a long walk in the lakes.
For the energetic visitor, there are numerous good walks literally from the door, with marvellous views across the Fells of the Central Lakes.
Ullswater, Windermere and Derwent Water are all within easy driving distance and where you will find boat trips, boat hire and fishing, together with other activities.
The Westmorland Way is a scenic walk through the old county of that name, which now forms the south eastern segment of Cumbria.
From mountain passes to canal towpaths, this is a walk of unparalleled variety.
