With plenty of history and long standing traditions combined with up to date facilities, shops and transport links, Penzance offers residents a unique place to live and laid back way of life.
Penzance (or Pen Sans in Cornish) means holy headland, referring to the headland to the west of the harbour where a chapel was built over a thousand years ago.
Historically Penzance has been a market town from 1592.
Modern Penzance had a population fast approaching 30,000 people covering all ages, nationality's and religions.
Penzance acts as Penwith's major shopping centre, offering locals and visitors alike a wide variety of shops, from national chains to smaller independent retailers.
The shopping district centres around Market Jew Street, Causeway Head & Chapel Street, with shops lining the adjoining streets & walkways.
Shopping in Penzance is centred around three streets, Market Jew Street, the historic Chapel Street and Causeway Head, making up most of the retail space in the town.
All three streets branch off from the distinctive domed roof of Lloyds bank, which contains the town clock.
The gastronomic choice in the town is second to none in Cornwall.
From fine dining at the Queens Hotel to more specialist cuisine including Italian, Thai, Indian, Chinese, Cornish and even a greasy spoon cafe or two.
Many of the eating establishments in the town offer magnificent views of Mounts bay, all the way to the Lizard including St. Michael's mount.
These views are especially stunning at dusk and best enjoyed with a glass of wine and good company.
A number of the local restaurants, cafe and eateries are taking part in the Penzance Shoppers Loyalty Card Scheme.
Every week there are plenty of events to keep you amused happening in the wider Penzance area.
So many that we have created a dedicated website in an easy to use format.
